Series Of Unfortunate Events

Tonight we has fish had quinoa with dinner. The good news is that the kids LOVED it. All 3 ate an amazing amount of the fish. The quinoa on the other hand was only loved by our littlest. And that is the start of the not so good news - she got it in every crevice and fold. So we decided to rinse her in the kitchen sink.

Well, little miss wiggles wanted to get down and play. I decided to let her play without a stitch on since bath time was only 15 minutes away. What could go wrong in 15 minutes, right? Riiiiight!

Not even 5 minutes later I hear her slowly and repeatedly saying "Uh oh. Uh oh." And then the older girls start shouting "EWE!!!" I stepped around the couch to see what was wrong and I found the baby sitting on the carpet, holding poop, and sitting next to a rather impressive pile. Bath time instantly got moved up. Baby needed decontaminating. Carpet needed washing. Older sisters needed calming. And I... needed to be done with this day.

I was SOO ready for a glass of wine and some shut eye. Whew, what a day! And that was only the last part! Good gracious!

Quote of the day: Talented

Sitting here with my girls, just after having our breakfast and my middle child is getting into the dress up box. She comes over to me with a silly little ruffled hat I knitted and announces "I can spin all kinds of hats because I'm talented. You can do that when you're 3 mama!" Her matter-of-fact tone just slays me! I love her! And I love these moments. Helps make the harder moments bearable and worth it.

Happy baby. Happy mama.

This is a picture of me and my littlest munchkin. She was enjoying an organic vanilla teething cookie. I was enjoying the rare moments of cuddle time. She's a girl on the move these days! Walking, running, climbing & wanting to do it all herself. She's never been a super cuddly baby, at least not with me. She's too busy checking out what her sisters are doing, getting into spaces and things she's not supposed to, learning new things and eating, eating, eating! But lately she's been a bit more cuddly, a bit more eager for a hug or to be held. Maybe because she is recently weaned, or maybe it is the whole separation anxiety stage that little ones start to go through at this age. Whatever the reason, it doesn't really matter. I'll take it! She is my last baby. I'll hold her anytime she wants to be held, and I will ignore those who whisper that I am spoiling her. I'll hold her even when she seems too heavy to carry. I'll hold her even when it's not convenient and I'm in the middle of some other task.

All too soon she will truly be too big to carry. She'll be "too old" for wanting cuddle time with mama. She will be running off with friends to giggle about boys instead of crawling up into my lap to giggle about nothing. So for today I am relishing all the cuddles and the giggles and the fact that she still fits in my lap. Today she's a happy baby and I am her happy mama.

Coffee and learning...

I love coffee. I like it creamy and a little sweet. I like coffee ice cream, coffee candy, coffee cake, & coffee liqueurs. I like flavored coffee, iced coffee, Vietnamese coffee, cafe au lait, espresso, and one of my all time favorite Starbucks seasonal beverage is soon to be available - coconut lattes! Coffee is also a must for combatting Zombie Mommy days when I've not slept well or stayed up too late trolling Pinterest. Coffee IS my happy juice. I truly believe it helps me to be a happier and thus better mama. And today... I lost my coffee.

I was gone only for a minute. It was approaching the baby's morning nap time and she was busy looking at a book. My older two girls were putting toys away in preparation for our quit time when they get to pick out a "show" to watch while the baby slept. I thought I would be safe to go to the bathroom by my self. I was out of the room for only a minute. And that is when it happened. In that one minute, I heard a clang and a crash followed by the baby crying and my oldest yelling "OH NO!" I dashed out of the bathroom to find my to-go coffee mug on the floor. In only a minute, coffee was everywhere. Coffee on the floor. Coffee on the couch. Coffee under the couch. Coffee on the chair. In only a minute, coffee was all over the baby. Coffee on her pjs. Coffee in her hair. Coffee in her ears. Coffee in the creases of her neck. And in only a minute my coffee was lost. No more happy juice. Thankfully I had made it over and hour earlier and it was barely warm and not at all hot, so the baby was scared by all the noise and not hurt. With three girls four years old and under, I rarely get to drink it hot. I've learned to appreciate luke warm coffee. That's one of the blessings of mommydom - you learn so much! Like how much can happen in only a minute! Time to go make more coffee!
